Coronavirus has made us all hyper-aware of the state of our own well-being and the well-being of our friends and families. The very first thing we did at Roots and Ritual was make a few more batches of our ROOTS AND RITUAL HONEY ELIXIR: TURMERIC SUPERFOOD.
While it is very well known in the Western world that Turmeric is a very powerful remedy for inflammation, in Ayurvedic medicine, Turmeric is a well-documented treatment for respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma, bronchial hyperactivity, and allergy), as well as for liver disorders, anorexia, rheumatism, diabetic wounds, runny nose, cough, and sinusitis).
NATURAL INGREDIENTS: Raw Honey, Turmeric, Raw Organic Coconut Oil, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Himalayan Salt, Ginger Root, Black Pepper, Saffron
BENEFITS OF OUR ALL-NATURAL INGREDIENTS:
Raw Honey – Considered the Nectar of the Gods, Honey itself is a superfood. There are 26 amino acids in honey. It is an antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic. Honey also contains flavonoids and phenolic acids. In Ayurveda, honey is used internally and externally. It is used for treatment of eye diseases, for cough, excessive thirst, mucous reduction, diabetes, obesity, burns, asthma and much more.
At Roots and Ritual, we do not “farm” our bees for honey. We practice natural beekeeping, choosing to leave the majority of honey & pollen for our bees to thrive on. We rescue and rehome bees from all over central Florida.
The very act of working our hives yields enough honey to create our small-batch superfoods. Our honey is very bee-friendly for our bee-gan friends.
Turmeric – Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant whose effects on your body are indisputable. It has over 200 unique compounds, the most prominent and beneficial being Curcumin. Because Curcumin has a low bioavailiabity, it has to be paired with piperine and some type of lipid aka fat. The piperine increases the curcumin’s bioavailability by up to 2000 percent and the lipid allows it to be absorbed directly into your bloodstream through the lymphatic system.
Our Roots and Ritual recipe has black pepper, a great source of piperine, and a raw organic coconut oil to provide the healthy the lipid your body needs to best metabolize turmeric.
Some additional benefits… curcumin can boost neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine; may help prevent and even treat Alzheimer’s and cancer; and may aid longevity. Curcumin studies have shown to increase the growth of new neurons & fights various degenerative processes in your brain, suppresses the molecules that can cause inflammation, and it stimulates the body’s own antioxidant enzymes.
Raw organic Coconut Oil – Coconut Oil moisturizes inside and outside, promotes heart health. Aside from its usefulness in helping your body metabolize turmeric, coconut oil contains Lauric acid which supports a strong immune system because it is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal & antiviral. It also helps balance your metabolism and provides energy and endurance.
Cinnamon – Cinnamon is an aromatic and warming herb that increases Ojas. According to Ayurveda, Ojas is responsible for immunity, strength and vitality. It also has antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Through the centuries it has been used for digestive health, as a reproductive tonic, as an expectorant & to regulate blood sugar levels.
Cardamom –Known as the ‘Queen of Spices’; Cardamom is a warming and detoxifying spice that is also antispasmodic and an aphrodisiac. It helps stimulate the digestive system, supports the respiratory system and calms the mind
Added to milk, it neutralizes mucus forming properties and it detoxifies caffeine in coffee.
Himalayan Salt – Himalayan salt has many benefits. It is extremely unique in that it a form of salt has matured for 250 million years under tectonic pressure with zero exposure to toxins and impurities.
Himalayan Salt contains 84 natural minerals elements found in the human body. Health benefits include supports your thyroid and adrenals, balances hormone levels, regulates blood pressure, assists in control of muscle contractions nerve transmissions and heart functions, improves digestion, actives metabolism and is a natural detoxifier.
Ginger Root – Ginger is known as “the universal medicine” and very good for stoking your Agni or digestive fire. It also acts as a fantastic expectorant and soothes inflammation in joints; while destroying Ama(toxins) in the body.
Black Pepper - Is rich in vitamins and minerals. Black Pepper is a potent digestive aid. It is also a strong antioxidant that helps to expectorate and dry up mucus membranes. The Piperine also aids the absorption of other nutrients. the heat in black pepper makes the Curcumin more bioavailable as it temporarily slows the liver from metabolizing it too quickly.
Saffron – It has high levels of Crocin & Crocetin which serve as to protect against free radicals, are anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial & increase circulation. They are also protective antioxidants which soften & tone the skin while reducing appearance of wrinkles.
